Former Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam and chief of Pradesh Congress Committee A. V Subramanian met Union Minister of Health and Family Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is in charge of party affairs of the Union Territory, in New Delhi, and discussed the stand to be taken for the Indira Nagar by-poll, slated for October 13.
Union Minister of State for Prime Minister's Office V. Narayanasamy is expected to join them during the course of the discussions.
In all likelihood, the party would contest the elections, which many in the party consider as an opportunity to demonstrate its position against the ruling N R Congress.
It might be recalled that at a recent press conference, Mr. Narayanasamy had announced his view as being in support of putting up a candidate against the ruling party.
Highly placed sources in the party told The Hindu that V. Aroumougam, who contested the recent Assembly elections against Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, is the front runner.
Meanwhile, president of N R Congress Mr. Rangasamy would announce the party candidate on an auspicious day, according to party functionaries.
