Congress, BJP trade charges

May 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - BHUBANESWAR:

The Odisha unit of the Congress on Tuesday criticised the Narendra Modi government saying the BJP-led government was spreading lies in the name of highlighting its achievements purportedly made during past one year.

Addressing a press conference here, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandansaid: “The Modi government has tried to take credit for every programme that was initiated by the previous UPA government. Contrary to its claim, the Modi government has slashed funds to the tune of Rs.67,000 crore from different welfare schemes.”

“On one hand, the government claims to have generated Rs.3,00,000 crore from auctioning of coal, on the other hand, without any emergency situation, the fund earmarked for welfare schemes is being reduced,” Mr. Harichandan said. “Mr. Modi had recently come to Rourkela to witness the technological upgradation and expansion programmes of the Rourkela Steel Plant. The present government does not have any role in preparing expansion plan of the plant. All was done by previous government,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan heaped praises on the Narendra Modi government saying achievements of the government during past one year had been spectacular.
