Two more aides of wanted criminal Vikas Dubey, including one who was being brought to Uttar Pradesh on transit remand from Faridabad in Haryana, were on Thursday shot dead in alleged encounters, police said.

The dead were identified as Prabhat Mishra and Bauwa Pandey. Police said both were involved in the ambush on June 2 and 3 in Bikru village in Kanpur in which eight policemen were killed.

Prabhat was arrested on Wednesday along with two others in Faridabad. Police, escorted by the STF personnel, were bringing Prabhat for transit remand from Faridabad when one of the tires of the vehicle got punctured near Panki police station in Kanpur. Using this opportunity, Prabhat snatched a police pistol and tried to flee while firing indiscriminately at the police team, ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said.

Two STF constables were injured in the shooting, while Prabhat was also injured in the firing by police in self-defence, said Mr. Kumar. Prabhat was taken to a hospital where he later died, said police.

Bauwa Dubey alias Praveen was shot dead in Etawah district, police said.

SSP Etawah Akash Tomar said that around 3 a.m. some persons in an SUV were seen escaping after looting a car on a highway near Bakewar. They were intercepted at Kachaura road at 4.30 a.m. and during the chase, the looted car collided with a tree following which the criminals started firing on the police, Etawah police said.

“When he [Bauwa] was intercepted, he fired at the police team and in return fire, he got seriously injured and was declared dead in the hospital,” said Mr. Tomar.

A pistol and a DBBL gun were recovered from him. Etawah police said his three accomplices managed to flee in the SUV.
