The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday filed the first charge sheet against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and two doctors for alleged castration of his followers at Sirsa. The Dera chief is serving a 20-year jail term in two rape cases.
The doctors arraigned in the charge sheet are M.P. Singh, a resident of Delhi’s Mayur Vihar, and Pankaj Garg from Panchkula in Haryana. They have been accused of castrating Ram Rahim’s followers at his instance.
Dr. Singh is currently in judicial custody in connection with the riots that took place in Panchkula and Sirsa in Haryana, after Ram Rahim was convicted in two rape cases in August last year.
The CBI case is based on a writ petition filed by a former Dera follower, Hansraj Chauhan, in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in July 2012 alleging that 400 followers of the Dera chief were castrated. It was alleged that Ram Rahim got his devotees castrated on false claims that it would lead to “realisation of God” through him.
Following the High Court’s directions, the agency registered an FIR in 2015 to investigate the allegations. Last October, the CBI recorded Ram Rahim’s statement in connection with the alleged castration.
“Further investigations in the case are under way. More charge sheets may be filed in due course,” said a CBI official.
