The CBI on Friday registered seven cases, against over 1,200 people for their alleged complicity in the Vyapam scam, including the one in connection with which Congress MP Digvijaya Singh had recently sought a probe against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Indore police officers.
The first case was initially registered by the Indore police about two years ago against 733 people, on charges of impersonation, illegal use of arms and tampering electronic evidence in connivance with Vyapam officials.
The Madhya Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) later took over the case and filed 12 charge sheets against 480 accused persons. The police arrested 516 people. The same case has now been taken over by the CBI.
About a week ago, Mr. Digvijaya Singh asked the CBI to register a separate case of alleged tampering and fabrication of records.Mr. Singh, one of the main petitioners in the case before the SC, wrote a letter to the CBI Director accusing the Indore police of fabricating and destroying records in the course of probing the case.
