The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested an Income-Tax officer at Khatima in Uttarakhand on charges of demanding and receiving a bribe of Rs.1 lakh from a person on the pretext of exempting him from scrutiny.

The accused has been identified as A.K. Singh. “He had demanded Rs.2 lakh for not scrutinising his income tax claims. Based on a complaint, we laid a trap and arrested him when he was accepting Rs.1 lakh from the complainant. Searches are being conducted on his premises at Haldwani and Dehradun in Uttarakhand,” said a CBI official.
