: Eight days after the sensational robbery in the house of a retired High Court judge here, the Twin City police commissioner R.P. Sharma on Saturday claimed that the Commissionerate police were very close to cracking the case.

Without divulging details, the police commissioner said a gang of four hardcore criminals had been detained and were being interrogated.

“All the four from Odisha have criminal histories,” Sharma said adding further verifications are on.

At least seven to eight dacoits had decamped with cash and jewellery from Justice (Retd) P.K. Mohanty’s house on May 30 after tying up the family members, including the 70-year-old Mohanty, in a room.

Adjudicating over a PIL pertaining to it, a vacation bench last week had directed the State government to form a high-level committee under the Chief Secretary to monitor the law and order situation in the State and review it every month.

The High Court has also asked the government to record the entry and exit of every single person and vehicle from major towns and cities in the State between 10 pm to 7 am everyday by setting up checkposts at every entry and exit point.
