Brawl at eatery over wrong order

October 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - NEW DELHI:

After complaining about the delivery of a wrong order, a group of men allegedly ransacked an eatery and assaulted its owner at Sarojini Nagar Market on Saturday night.

The incident came to the fore around 10.30 p.m. outside the Amar Jyoti restaurant at the market. In his purported statement to the police, the restaurant owner said that his employees had taken an order and got it delivered at a local address, however they got a call a few minutes later saying that they had delivered a wrong product.

Soon after, three men walked into the shop and started abusing the staffers saying that they had been billed for and made to pay for an order they had not ordered.

The owner, Tanmeet Singh and his uncle Kuldeep tried to pacify the men, but they called a few others and all of them barged into the shop and started thrashing the staffers. When Tanmeet tried to intervene, the men started thrashing him as well.

Tanmeet alleged that the men then broke the glass panes and furniture at the eatery before leaving. Locals said that they even tried to set the shop on fire, but were dissuaded by them.

According to the police, a case of rioting under IPC sections pertaining to assault and damage to property has been registered against the unidentified men. A CCTV footage has also been recovered from the restaurant, which shows the men clearly, said a senior police officer.
