Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren on Monday said that the ruling BJP would join hands with the North East India Development Party (NEIDP) for the coming Lok Sabha election. This is the first pre-poll alliance in Manipur, which has two Lok sabha seats.

Mr. Biren said, “We are joining hands with the NEIDP as it is a like-minded party. We had approached the party leadership and there was a positive response.” The political agenda of both parties were similar since more emphasis was laid on the development of the State and welfare of the people.

President in-charge of the NEIDP, Elangbam Brojendro, said, “We are all for addressing the issues in the State. Our party stands for development and peace.”

The NEIDP was a member of the joint political platform of 11 parties formed recently to solve burning issues. However, it withdrew from the joint forum a few days ago . “There was no joint effort on the part of the forum,” a party spokesman said.
