BJP opposes release of Madras Cafe in Mumbai

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday threatened to stall the release of Bollywood film Madras Cafe, alleging that the film will hurt the emotions of the Tamil population.

“From the reports we have received about the film, it seems that it has portrayed a particular ideology in extremely bad light. The screening of this film will hurt the feelings of the Tamil population. We have decided to not let this film screen in Mumbai,” said Ashish Shelar, President of the Mumbai-BJP unit.

Mr. Shelar said that the film is an effort to glorify a particular political party and its leaders by demeaning other sect of people. “This cannot be permitted,” he said.

The BJP has demanded an explanation from the Censor board, the production house of Madras Cafe and the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on this issue. “They should answer our concerns. Otherwise we will not allow the release of this film,” he said.

Despite repeated attempts the production house could not be contacted.
