With the arrest of two persons, Bihar Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a thriving Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) racket that targeted rural people.
Fake currency notes of Rs. 100 denomination with the face value of Rs. two lakh, high-end printing machines, computers, good quality paper, cutting machines and other material were recovered from them, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana said.
Mr. Rana said the printing base, where they used to scan and produce notes, was at a place under Laheri police station in Nalanda.
“They produced fake notes of lesser denominations as people are cautious while accepting Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes.
They targeted shops, village markets and petrol pumps in rural areas to circulate the counterfeits,” he said.
The SSP said the racket seemed to be a localised one, though investigations were being conducted to trace the arrested persons’ links with other similar gangs.
They were already connected to a similar gang busted by the police in Patna district around five months ago.
