Bezbaroa’s song is anthem of Assam

Assam Government has decided in principle to accord the status of official State anthem to the song “O Mor Aponar Desh” (O’ my beloved land) composed by Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa, the doyen of modern Assamese literature, way back in 1910. Unofficially, for over eight decades this song has been the State anthem for the people of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday asked Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla to take steps for an approval of the decision by the State Cabinet in its next sitting, stated an official release.Earlier on Sunday the song was performed in 29 different languages under the aegis of “O Mor Aponar Desh: Samanyay Mancha” at a function held in Nagaon town.
