West Bengal Police has arrested the brother-in-law of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Railway Minister Mukul Roy for allegedly cheating people on the pre-text of providing railway jobs.

Mr. Roy brother-in-law Srijan Roy was arrested from Delhi Airport late on Friday night by officials of Bizpur Police Station of State North 24 Paraganas district.

Mukul Roy, however, described the arrest as a “political conspiracy” aimed at targeting him.

“Srijan Roy was arrested for duping several people on the pre-text of getting them jobs and taking money from them,” a senior district police official said. He also said that the accused was produced at a district court on Saturday which remanded him 12 days of police custody.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday Mukul Roy said that the arrest of his brother-in-law is “part of conspiracy hatched by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee against me and my family members. She is resorting to such things because she is afraid of us (BJP).”

The BJP leader further alleged that the related case was lodged in 2012 during his tenure as the Union Rail Minister when Mr. Roy was also the TMC general secretary. “The case was lodged in 2012 and such things (arrest of Srijan Roy) are happening ahead of Panchayat polls. I will fight such conspiracy politically.”
