The State Meteorological Department and the district administrations here have warned the people in the hill State of some heavy snowfall and movement in avalanches in the higher altitude areas in the coming days. People have been alerted and advised to not to venture out in the higher snow bound areas of the tribal districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, parts of Chamba, Shimla and Kullu districts. A very heavy snowfall has been predicted in these areas on Thursday. The Centre for Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) in Manali has warned that an avalanche could take place in the hills located at an altitude of above 2,500 metres.
The weather in majority places here remained overcast since morning on Wednesday and a moderated snowfall has been reported from the higher reaches. Shimla and the surrounding tourist resorts of Kufri, Fagu, Narkanda and Mashobara experienced a mild snowfall in the afternoon. Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti and Kalpa and Kaza in Kinnaur, the Rohtang Pass and other higher peaks like Lady of Keylong and Ghoshal hills experienced a good spell of snow even on Wednesday, said the officials.
Areas like Pangi, Bharmaur, Baralacha and Manimesh ranges in Chamba district, Dhauladhar ranges of Kangra and high reaches of Kullu district also had a moderate spell of snowfall.
Capital Shimla was lashed by icy cold waves in the evening and it had started snowing heavily in the famous tourist resort of Manali in the evening.
