ASI arrested for allegedly taking bribe

An Assistant Sub-Inspector of police posted in Kandhamal district was allegedly caught red handed by vigilance sleuths on Thursday while he was accepting bribe worth 15,000 rupees on the premises of G. Udaygiri police station.

The ASI, Laxman Mallick, posted in G. Udaygiri police station has been arrested. His residential quarter was also searched by vigilance officials. He would be produced in court on Friday. According to Superintendent of Police Manoranjan Panda, the arrested ASI had demanded bribe from the complainant Hari Nayak of Tikabali area to release his seized vehicle along with its documents. Nayak approached vigilance department and a trap was laid to nab Mallick.

Waiting vigilance officials rounded up Mallick after he accepted the money marked with phenolphthalein in the police station.

The marked currency notes were recovered from the pocket of accused and seized along with relevant documents related to the case.
