Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu was on Tuesday remanded in police custody till October 19 by a local court in a sexual assault case filed by two Surat-based sisters against him and his son Narayan Sai.

Magistrate V.A. Budh granted the police Asaram’s remand till October 19 against their plea for 14-day custody after he was produced in the court on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, anticipatory bail plea hearing of Sai was adjourned on Tuesday after prosecution sought time to file a detailed reply on it.

Additional sessions judge P.P. Shah has given time of two days to the prosecution and kept the next hearing on October 17 to hear the plea.

Surat police had recently registered complaints filed by two sisters — one against Asaram and another against his son Sai — of rape, sexual assault, illegal confinement and other charges.
