Army officer, soldier, porter killed in J&K

Two soldiers, including an officer, were killed in two separate incidents in J&K on Friday. An army porter was also killed in a ceasefire violation.

An Army spokesman said an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion took place around 3 p.m. near Line of Control (LoC) in Naushera Sector in Rajouri. "An army officer and a soldier got grievously injured. Immediate resuscitation and medical aid was provided. However, they succumbed to the injuries," said the army spokesman.

In a separate incident, an unprovoked ceasefire violation was resorted to by Pakistan troops in Sunderbani Sector. "An army porter, Hemraj, was shot at and grievously injured in the incident. He later succumbed to the gun shot wounds," said the Army.

Meanwhile, in Srinagar, militants hurled a grenade towards a security picket in Srinagar's commercial hub Lal Chowk late on Friday evening.

An official said the target of the grenade was a picket of 132 Battalion of CRPF at Palladium. "No loss of life was reported,” said CRPF spokesman Sanjay Sharma.

Meanwhile, a Jaish-e-Muhammad spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack. "The attack was in revenge for its slain commander Nasir Khan alias Abdul Rehman," said the spokesman.
