Another TMC leader held with unlicensed gun

February 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - Jalpaiguri (WB):

A Trinamool Congress leader was arrested for illegal possession of a country-made gun in Jalpaiguri district, police said on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the house of Rabiul Islam, a TMC leader of Kranti panchayat in Mal subdivision, last night and seized a country-made gun.

Islam was remanded in five days’ police custody by a local court.

The arrest came days after TMC leader Naren Chakraborty was arrested at Kolkata airport for carrying an unlicensed gun.

Mr. Chakraborty, a top functionary of the Burdwan Zilla Parishad and Pandabeshwar block Trinamool Congress president, was arrested on January 31 when he was trying to board a Chennai-bound flight from NSCBI Airport with an unlicensed gun and cartridges in his bag. - PTI
