Congress leader and former Union Minister Anand Sharma on Wednesday filed nomination papers for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Himachal Pradesh. Mr. Sharma filed four sets of nomination papers before the Vidhan Sabha Secretary in the presence of State Congress president Sukhwinder Singh, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and other Congress leaders.
Prior to this, Mr. Sharma became a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan as the leader did not file nomination papers from his home State of Himachal since the BJP government was in power in 2010. With 27 members in a 68-member House, the BJP is unlikely to field a candidate against the Congress leader this time.
Commenting on ongoing issues, Mr. Sharma told media persons that the Narendra Modi government had an “inconsistent and incoherent” foreign policy. He pointed out to diplomatic meetings from Ufa talks to the Lahore tea party, while reminding people of the Udhampur and Pathankot attacks to buttress his point.
