A student of the Aligarh Muslim University was on Friday booked for allegedly posting an objectionable tweet on the soldiers who died in the Pulwama suicide attack.

Basim Hilal, a mathematics student at the university, allegedly posted on Twitter, “How's the Jaish? Great Sir,” in apparent reference to a dialogue from the film Uri , which is based on the surgical strikes conducted by the army in 2016.

A case was registered against the student, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, at Civil Lines police station in Aligarh.

SSP Aligarh Akash Kulhary said the student has been booked under Section 153A of the IPC, which deals with promoting enimity between different groups, and relevant clauses of the IT Act.

The student has also been suspended from the varsity, said its spokesperson Omar Saleem Peerzad.

“We’ve come to know of the highly objectionable tweet. Taking immediate cognizance he has been suspended by AMU administration. We won’t let the University be discredited. We’ve zero tolerance,” he told reporters.
