Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s constituency Amethi is set to be developed as a Smart City by the Narendra Modi-led government. The Centre has written to the Akhilesh Yadav led state government in this regard and a communication has been sent to the district authorities, Amethi ADM M P Saroj said.

“The state Urban Development department has sent a letter to administration of Amethi in this regard. We have sought services of a town planner in this regard,” Mr. Saroj said.

Amethi will be developed as most modernised and high-tech city having Wi-Fi facility, uninterrupted power supply, roads, high-tech disposal of the wastes, world class education system, e-governance, etc, he said.

Several youths will be provided employment through such development, he said. BJP leaders including former district president of the party, Daya Shankar Yadav claim that “this step of Modi government may prove a boon to Amethi people and they may discontinue their so-called affiliation with Nehru-Gandhi family”.
