Alapan Bandopadhyay named new West Bengal Chief Secretary

Alapan Bandyopadhyay will take over as West Bengal Chief Secretary from October 1. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to social media making the announcement. Mr Bandyopadhyay is in charge of State’s Home and Hill affairs Department.  H K Dwivedi will be the new Home Secretary.

“I'm pleased to announce that Alapan Bandyopadhyay, now Addnl Chief Secy (Home & Information) is appointed as the new Chief Secretary of WB. H K Dwivedi, hitherto Finance Secy, will be new Home Secy & Manoj Pant takes charge of Finance w.e.f. 1st Oct. Best wishes to the entire team,” Ms Banerjee tweeted.

 State's Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha is scheduled to retire on September 30. Ms Banerjee said that Mr Sinha, has now been appointed the Chairman of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation for a period of 3 years with effect from 1st October.

 The bureaucratic reshuffle comes at a time when the State is battling the outbreak of COVID-19 and the State is likely to go for Assembly polls next year.

 Mr Bandyopadhyay is 1987 batch IAS officer and has vast experience of serving as District Magistrates of several districts of West Bengal. He has served as Commissioner of Kolkata Municipal Corporation among other administrative responsibilities.
