A delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) MPs and Delhi blast case convict Devinderpal Singh Bhullar’s wife Navneet Kaur on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Political Councillor of the German Embassy here, seeking the European nation’s intervention in the matter of award of the death sentence to him.

Bhullar was extradited to India from Germany.

The delegation, led by the SAD(B)’s Delhi unit president Manjit Singh G.K., contended that the death sentence was “primarily based on a confession made by him in police custody. The confession was extracted under torture and Bhullar had later retracted the statement in court,” it said adding the German Appeal Court had declared he should not have been deported.

Apart from SAD(B) youth wing president Manjinder Singh Sirsa and secretary Rajinder Singh, the delegation comprised a U.K.-based Barrister Satnam Singh Bains and human rights advocate from the U.K. Jaswant Kaur.
