A day after the Nationalist Congress Party sought to blame the Maharashtra government’s rejection of the Adarsh Commission report on Chief Minister Prithivraj Chavan, NCP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar distanced himself from his party's stand. It was a Cabinet decision which was taken after much thought, he said.
On Thursday, Mr. Pawar had said, “The decision to reject the report was taken by the Cabinet. The Chief Minister is the head of the Cabinet.” Adding to that, NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said if Mr. Chavan was not happy, he could review the decision and the party would support him.
On Friday, Mr. Pawar, however, told reporters here: “The decision on Adarsh was taken by the Cabinet after much thought. I am a part of the Cabinet.” On Mr. Malik’s statement, he said, “He is the spokesperson of the NCP. He presented the party’s view.”
The inquiry report indicted four former Congress Chief Ministers and two NCP Cabinet Ministers.
Will file PIL: SenaMeanwhile, Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said the party would file a public interest litigation petition in the Bombay High Court protesting “lack of responsible action” by the government on the Adarsh report.
