The AAP candidate in Amritsar, Daljit Singh, a well-known eye surgeon, on Saturday took on his opponent from the BJP, Arun Jaitley, asking him to come clean on his role in hushing up the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal.

Dr. Singh, a Padma Shri recipient, filed his nomination papers during the day. He said that Mr. Jaitley, who was in the thick of mediation between various people who figured in the controversy, must inform the common cricket lover about how crores of rupees were spent.

Dr. Singh took a dig at the BJP leader, asking him if, like cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, he too would leave the people of Amritsar high and dry once elected.

Dr. Singh said that it was established that both the Congress and the Akali Dal did not object to Operation Blue Star, especially current CM Parkash Singh Badal. “Why are you and Capt. Amarinder Singh [Congress] now shadow boxing in the media? Why don’t you come clean and own up your coalition partner’s role in it? Is there an agreement between you and Captain to sweep the truth under the carpet?”
