A woman and her aide were arrested for murdering her husband, an office bearer of the NCP, at her residence in suburban Andheri, police said today.

Rupa Khot (30) and her aide Sunil Chavan (45) were apprehended yesterday for allegedly strangulating to death Vilas (42), an office bearer in NCP’s Andheri office, police added.

“Rupa claimed she killed her husband as he had tortured her a lot and had an extra marital affair. Rupa along with her husband’s friend Sunil Chavan suffocated Vilas with a pillow and then strangulated him at her residence,” said Suresh Hujband, senior inspector at MIDC police station.

Yesterday, Rupa herself notified police about her husband’s death by fabricating a story that Vilas had returned home at 3am and had gone off to sleep without waking her up.

“Rupa had claimed that a few hours later when she tried to wake him up, he did not respond, after which she contacted doctors and police,” Mr. Hujband said.

However, we suspected her version and started interrogating her, Mr. Hujband said adding, “Rupa later admitted to having killed her husband.”

Elaborating about the crime, Mr. Hujband said, “Vilas had gone home at 00.10 hours on Monday when Rupa had an argument with him. Vilas again went out when she contacted Chavan requesting him to help her in killing Vilas. Chavan agreed and when Vilas returned home after a while, Chavan and Rupa murdered him.”
