VCK demands CBI probe

April 28, 2011 01:24 am | Updated September 27, 2016 08:10 pm IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The Puducherry unit of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) on Wednesday demanded a CBI probe into the issue of Trusts, allegedly linked to Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh, getting clearance from the territorial government to build a medical college in Karaikal and a gurdwara in Puducherry.

In a statement here, Puducherry secretary of VCK S. Pavanan said allegations that a Trust, in which Mr. Singh's sons were members, was given No-Objection Certificate for building a medical college in Karaikal without the approval of the Cabinet has “surfaced with evidence.”

Further, there were also accusations that those associated with Mr. Singh had got land allotted for building a gurdwara using his clout. Therefore, the government should order a CBI probe into these matters, he said.

Pointing out that Mr. Singh had accepted that he recommended expeditious issuance of passport to stud farm owner Hasan Ali Khan, he said that those who had lost the trust of the people should not continue in such high office. “Mr. Singh should voluntarily come forward to resign,” he said.
