Majid Manihar, the kingpin of the fake currency racket in Uttar Pradesh was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a hotel in Nepalganj town of Nepal on Monday. His death was confirmed by District Police Chief of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
Mr. Manihar's son, Vikky Manihar was arrested by the Bahraich police in August this year for his alleged involvement in the FICN racket, which he later confessed to during interrogation.
Additional Director General (Law and Order), Brij Lal told reporters here on Tuesday that Majid Manihar and his son were wanted by the Bahraich police in a FICN case registered in November 2008. He said the details of his alleged murder were not available with the UP police as the issue pertained to a neighbouring country.
Considering that the counterfeit currency notes were smuggled into the State through Nepal, the possibility of the involvement of the Pakistan-based ISI has not been ruled out by the UP police officials.
