Two more arrested in Dalit girl rape case in Haryana

Two more persons were arrested on Sunday in connection with the rape of a teenaged Dalit girl who later attempted suicide by immolating herself in the Narwana area in the district, police said.

The incident took place on Saturday when the 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two youths, identified as Pradeep and Naveen, while the former’s sister-in-law Meena kept guard standing on the terrace of the house.

However, another accused Sanjeev, according to the complaint of the victim, also came to the room and bolted the door.

In a state of shock, the girl went to her house and sprinkled kerosene on herself in an attempt to commit suicide.

However, the victim was rushed to the PGIMS Rohtak, but she succumbed to her 90 per cent injuries later on Saturday evening, they said.

While Mr Sanjeev and Ms Meena were arrested on Saturday, the main accused were arrested on Sunday morning, they said.

Further probes are on into the case, police added.

Saturday’s rape incident was the 12th in Haryana within around a month’s span.
