A Trinamool Congress supporter was shot dead, allegedly by CPI (Maoist) cadre, at Nayagram in Naxalite-hit West Midnapore district, the police said today.

Forty-year-old Asit Bera was picked up by Maoists last night when he was having dinner with family members at his home in Bachur Khoar village. He was later shot dead from close range just outside his residence in front of his family members.

Maoists had also pasted posters on the walls saying that they had killed Bera for allegedly spying on the guerrillas, the police said.

Recently four persons were arrested from the area on the suspicion of working for Maoists.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the area in the wake of the two-day bandh call given by Maoists starting on December 8 for arresting their top leaders.
