Trinamool Congress on Wednesday said that it did not approve of party MP Kabir Suman’s “thought and philosophy” of eulogising the Maoists by releasing an album on one of its leaders.
“We do not approve the philosophy and thought of Mr. Suman and the lyrics of the song. We are totally opposed to the CPI (Maoist), their philosophy and their politics of killing,” party chief whip in Lok Sabha, Sudip Bandopadhyay, told PTI here.
He was responding to a question on singer-turned MP Suman’s plan to release an album eulogising Chhatradhar Mahato, leader of PCPA, and the Maoists. Mahato is currently lodged in jail in West Bengal.
“We are also opposed to the philosophy of Mahato,” he added.
Describing Mr. Suman as an artist, he said Trinamool Congress has nothing to do with his “personal thinking and philosophy.”
Mr. Suman’s plan to release the album comes barely months after he alleged that a section of party leaders were interfering in his functioning as an MP.
Trinamool Chief Mamata Banerjee had said that Mr. Suman was a singer and had his own stories. “There are some guests in the party and he is one of them“.
Mr. Bandopadhyay said, Maoists should surrender their arms and come to the negotiating table. “The Maoists should respond to the call of Home Minister P. Chidambaram,” he said.
