A court here on Tuesday remanded five tourists from Gujarat, accused of stealing jewels and cash from two women of Hyderabad, to 10-day police custody.

They were caught on Monday evening on the Mollem border of north Goa.

The Old Goa police recovered the stolen items worth Rs. 5.5 lakh within three hours of a complaint lodged by Kamakshi Rajshekhar and Chandrakala of Hyderabad.

According to the police, the two women, staying in a hotel at Canacona, found their valuables missing from the taxi they hired to visit churches in Old Goa.
