The Puducherry government has decided to delink teachers from operating the noon meal programme in government schools and appoint dieticians on contract basis to man the scheme.
It would not be proper to associate the teachers with the scheme,Chief Minister V Vaithilingam told the assembly on Friday.
Winding up a five day debate on various departments including Education,he said the Union Territory has established a record of being a number one state in the country by covering larger number of children under the primary and middle school level of education.As against national average of 1:33, there was a teacher for every 20 students (1:20) in Puducherry.
He said government had drawn up plans to get Rs 100 crore as loan from the NABARD for construction of class rooms and also to procure furniture for schools. The government had initiated steps to fill 461 posts of teachers.
The government was implementing the Centrally sponsored Sarva Siksha Abhiyan. The rate of dropout in schools was very minimal in Puducherry. The administration had also decided to make English Medium sections available in all schools without at the same time losing sight of importance of learning through Tamil medium,he said.
PWD and Higher Education Minister M O H F Shahjahan said a women`s college would come up during 2010-2011 in Neravy Tirupattinam in Karaikal.
A three-month course in French and Japanese languages would be started soon in Kanchi Maamunivar Centre for PG Studies (a government autonomous college).
