Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress president Saifuddin Soz on Tuesday demanded a high level inquiry into the killing of Wamik Farooq in police action on Sunday.
“The least that the government should do is to institute a high level inquiry and summarily remove from service the official responsible for this unfortunate death of the innocent boy,” Mr. Soz, a member of Rajya Sabha, said.
Wamik was hit by a teargas shell in his head at Rajouri Kadal during a clash between police and a mob on Sunday and later succumbed to his injury at Soura Medical Institute.
Mr. Soz urged the state administration to take a serious view of the incident so that they recur.
Police has already placed under suspension the assistant sub-inspector who fired the teargas in a “negligent and careless manner” and ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Expressing his deep anguish over the killing of the boy, the PCC chief said, “casualties like this are totally unacceptable in the civil society”.
