The former Jharkhand Chief Minister, Shibu Soren, was acquitted on Tuesday by a local court in a 36-year-old case of murder, for lack of evidence. It was the last of the three cases of murder against him.

Mr. Soren, who appeared before Additional District Judge Mohammad Qasim, looked relieved after the verdict. The court reserved its judgement on June 3.

The case related to an FIR filed on April 15, 1974, by Bahadur Singh, who had accused Mr. Soren of leading a group that killed two persons, Khirodar Singh and Chundi Singh, following the slaughter of a goat at Kudko under the Pirtand police station in Giridih district.
