Shrimati Kamla, freedom fighter and former Deputy Chief minister of Rajasthan, was administered oath of office and secrecy on Thursday as the governor of Tripura at the darbar hall of Raj Bhavan here.
Justice of Gauhati High Court, Amitava Roy administered her the oath of office in the presence of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and all his cabinet colleagues including Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury, Food Minister Manik De, Education and Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty and Higher Education Minister Anil Sarkar, former Chief minister and TPCC president Samir Ranjan Burman.
Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Mahadeo Singh Khandela was also present in the ceremony.
Governor later told reporters that extending all kinds of help to the State government for development and strengthening democracy would be her areas of priority.
In a message to the people she said, “Insurgency has declined in the state and it should be everyone’s duty to protect normalcy and maintain peace and harmony.”
Born in Rajasthan on January 12, 1927, Ms. Kamla joined the movement of freedom struggle at the age of 13. She first became Deputy minister of Rajasthan at the age of 27 in 1954.
She was a member of AICC before coming to Tripura to take over the duties as governor.
