Candidates who have missed the first online and the ongoing Common Admission Test (CAT) for admission to the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other prominent business schools due to “some genuine reasons” will be given yet another chance to appear for the test.
IIM-Ahmedabad director Samir Barua said here on Monday that the new dates for the test and venue would be announced within a fortnight. The students would be intimated about the test by Prometric, the company which was instrumental in holding the first online CAT this year that took a disastrous start.
Dr. Barua said that even those, who, for some reasons, might not be able to appear for the online CAT on the extended day of the test on Tuesday, would be given the opportunity to write the test on the rescheduled day. He admitted that even on the last day of the current schedule, there could still be some candidates who might face difficulties in appearing for the test. But, he claimed that till Sunday, more than 1.85 lakh candidates appeared for the online test across the country.
The IIM-A director said the problems encountered by the candidates included virus attack and problems in hardware. Some students had mistakenly clicked the end button even before completing the test and were logged out. “We will analyse all the data and re-schedule the test in about two weeks’ time,” he said.
To a question, Dr. Barua said the IIMs could review their association with Prometric for conducting the online CAT next year in view of their disastrous experience this year. He claimed that the responsibility entrusted to it was a “correct one” and taken jointly by all the IIMs together.
