November 06, 2009 07:15 pm | Updated 07:15 pm IST - Bhopal:

The Centre has prepared a working plan for the development of all National Highways in Madhya Pradesh. The ambitious plan, to be implemented by the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry, will see an investment of Rs.25000 crore in the State over the next four years.

Once completely implemented, the scheme would result in all national highways in the State being 10 metre or wider. Under the scheme, highways with high traffic flow would be converted to four-lanes, while all others would be made into two lanes.

Gwalior-Indore, Rewa-Jabalpur, Bhopal-Byawara, Rewa-Seedhi-Singrauli and Bhopal-Jabalpur (partially) highways will be developed into four-lanes while Indore-Betul, Obedullaganj-Nagpur, Katni-Umariya-Shahdol and others would be developed into two lanes.

The Government has also decided to develop the Gwalior-Dewas highway into a mega project and has laid special emphasis on improving roads in backward areas like Jhabua, Mandla and Dindori among others.

Responsibility for implementing the scheme for some highways like Rewa-Seedhi-Singrauli, Jabalpur-Rewa, Bhopal-Byawara has been given to the State Government’s road development corporation.
