While Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has been praising the Nehruvian vision of development through industrialisation, his government seems to be finding it difficult to translate it into practice.
After receiving a cold investor response at several meetings with industrialists organised across the State in Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur and Sagar among others, the government is now finding it extremely difficult to sell an IT park in the State’s industrial hub of Indore.
The IT park, developed by Madhya Pradesh Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam, has not received any successful bid for the third time in a row.
Tenders for bidding were first floated in 2006 and then again in January this year. While no investors showed interest the first time round, the Nigam failed to capitalise on the solitary bid from a Delhi-based developer.
The fate of the latest attempt by the Nigam to sell the park has not been any different, with the Corporation not receiving a single application. The last date for sending in the applications was November 16. “I believe there is a problem with the current sale model being followed by us and hence the cold response,” says the Managing Director of the Nigam, Neeraj Mandloi.
“Recession is also a major deterrent. We are contemplating changing the sale model and leasing out the IT park to individuals in parts.”
