A day after a youth was killed in Srinagar, curfew was extended to a few other districts as clashes continued for the 45th day on Monday.
Besides Srinagar, locals said curfew was imposed in Pulwama, Anantnag and Kulgam districts. Movement of vehicles and people was restricted in other parts of the Valley under Section 144.
Several pro-freedom processions were held in Anantnag, Baramulla, Kupwara, Budgam and Shopian districts. Security forces chased away protesters in Aishmuqam, Sopore, Salia and Ganawpora. Locals alleged that the security forces used force against “peaceful anti-India rallies.” Several were injured in the clashes that followed.
Police said curfew restrictions were relaxed in parts of Srinagar from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met officials of the Oil Tankers’ Association in Jammu and asked them to immediately resume fuel supplies to Kashmir. The association is on a strike since Saturday evening citing “attacks” on drivers and cleaners. “The State government will give them helpline numbers to get in touch with the authorities in case of an emergency,” said a government spokesman.
