In a bid to enhance its reach among the farmers, the National Conference has constituted a 14-member ‘Kissan’ cell of the party for the Jammu region.
The cell has been constituted on the directions of Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah, the state president of NC Rattan Lal Gupta told reporters here today.
The chairmen of the districts would be contacting the farmers in their respective areas to find out their problems, he said.
The present coalition government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is concerned for the farming community and this is indicated by the fact that a sizable amount has been kept in the budget for the up-liftment of agricultural sector, he said.
