A college student was shot dead by suspected Maoists at Bodam in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, police said on Tuesday.

“Nineteen-year-old Malinder Singh, an intermediate student of Chandil College, was shot dead last night when he was returning home after Saraswati puja preparations at Khokro village,” Superintendent of Police, Navin Kumar Singh said.

Meanwhile, residents of Maoist-affected villages of Patamada block of East Singhbhum and adjoining Nimdhi in Saraikela-Kharswan district formed an anti-Maoist committee “Gram Janarajya Panchayat Parishad” to launch a movement against the ultras.

Villagers armed with traditional weapons took out processions in villages to protest against the recent bandh called by Maoists, the police said.
