M.P. to set up Special Education Zones

The Madhya Pradesh government seems all set to initiate rapid privatization of higher education in the state. For this purpose, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has decided to set up Special Education Zones (SEdZ) in the State on the lines of Special Economic Zones (SEZ).

The decision to set up the SEdZ was taken in ameeting held with state Higher Education Minister Laxmikant Sharma and Chief Secretary Avni Vaish.

The SEdZ will promote the setting up of private universities and educational institutions in the state. For this purpose, lands have been selected in Manikhera, Bhauri and Acharpura villages in Bhopal district while a survey about availability of land in Sagar, Raisen and Vidisha district is going on.

National level educational institutions will he established at these places. Similarly, letters of intent have been issued for setting up private universities at Raghogarh, Gwalior, Bhopal five other places.

While the first SEdZ will come up in Bhopal, another one is proposed to be set up soon near Ujjain.

The CM also decided to write a letter to Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal urging the centre to reduce interest rates on educational loans at the national level.
