Look-out notice for Hiranandani brothers

August 04, 2010 01:13 am | Updated 01:13 am IST - MUMBAI:

The Central Bureau of Investigation has issued a look-out notice for builders Niranjan Hiranandani and Surendra Hiranandani in a case of evasion of provident fund.

“The notice was given out 10 days ago, as the brothers have been absconding. We need them for recoding some important statements. Since they have not got in touch with any of the immigration checkposts so far, we suspect that they could still be in the country,” CBI officer Praveen Modak told The Hindu on the phone.

“[The Hiranandanis] of M/s.Hiranandani Properties Pvt. Ltd. and eight others cheated the Employees Provident Fund Department … by not paying Rs. 168 crore in PF dues of site workers employed through contractors in various projects of the Hiranandani Group. And in conspiracy with EPF officials, they deposited a meagre Rs. 2.92 lakh as PF dues and closed the matter illegally,” a CBI release said.
