Lalrintluangi, the first Mizo woman to conquer Mount Everest, was accorded a grand welcome when she arrived at the Lengpui airport from Guwahati on Thursday.

Hundreds of admirers and sports lovers received the 19-year-old student of Class XII at the airport and accompanied her to Aizawl where an official reception was organised by the State government.

Lalrintluangi and ten other NCC cadets from across the country climbed Mount Everest and reached the summit on May 21.

She was the only mountaineer from the Northeast in the expedition which began in April last. — PTI
