A CBI court here on Monday rejected the bail petition of the former Jharkhand Chief Minister, Madhu Koda, in the Rs. 4,000-crore money laundering scam.
Mr. Koda has been in jail since November 2009 in a graft case. In November 2009, Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate officials raided 69 places in the country on complaints that he possessed assets disproportionate to his income and arrested him.
Mr. Koda's plea for bail on medical grounds was rejected and CBI judge N.N. Singh directed the authorities to extend all possible medical treatment to him. “As different agencies are investigating the cases against Mr. Koda and evidence have been found against him in almost all the cases,” the plea got rejected, said N.N. Singh.
The IT Department, the CBI and the Jharkhand Vigilance Bureau are separately investigating alleged illegal investment and hawala transactions against Mr. Koda and his associates.
