Kashmir Valley backs JNU students

The Kashmir Valley on Friday saw local youths and separatist leaders pledging support to the JNU students. Violent demonstrations, where protesters flashed the ‘Thank JNU’ banners, were seen immediately after the Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid.

The government did not allow All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, also the Valley’s head priest, to lead the Friday prayers. Speaking to The Hindu, the Mirwaiz lashed out at “fanatical right-wing chauvinism for redefining nationalism and patriotism with the help of the political establishment.”
