Jet Airways flights from the city were delayed on Saturday due to a strike by about 400 contractual labourers of the airline demanding enhanced pay.

Since 12 noon, when the strike began, four Jet flights landed till 2 pm at the NSC Bose International Airport while three more were waiting for takeoff, airport sources said.

However, as Engineering Assistants, Cabin Cleaners, Loaders and other contractual labourers were not working, managers of the respective departments were doing their job, the sources said.

On the pay day today, the labourers demanded hiked wages according to a recent central government circular, but their contractor, Shyamal Poddar, said he cannot pay enhanced wage as the Jet authorities did not provide him money for that.

At this, the around 400 workers, under the banner of Jet Airways Contractual Labour Union, went for the strike which is on at present.
