General secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Jayalalithaa on Tuesday exhorted the people of Puducherry to vote for the party-led alliance in the Assembly elections and make All India N.R. Congress president N. Rangasamy the Chief Minister.
Addressing a campaign meeting at Anglo French Textiles ground here, Ms. Jayalalithaa said that the elections presented the voters with an opportunity to overthrow the Congress-DMK combine and make the polls a “turning point” in the history of Puducherry.
Ms. Jayalalithaa said the most important issue affecting the people of Puducherry was price rise, which was the consequence of “inefficiency” of the territorial government and “wrong economic policies” followed by the Centre.
Prices of all essential commodities and construction materials had increased manifold in the last two years and people were burdened by frequent hike in petroleum prices.
Pointing out that the other vital issue faced by the Puducherry electorate was law and order, she said there was no security for the life and property of people and they should consider the elections an occasion to change the scenario.
She also said that though the Opposition party in the Assembly was the DMK, it was the AIADMK that had fought for the welfare of people on several issues and served as the real Opposition.
Listing several promises made in the AIADMK manifesto, Ms. Jayalalithaa said that if voted to power, the party-led combine would “take the UT on the path of development.”

Ms. Jayalalithaa urged people to vote for the “cause of democracy and future generations as this was the only way to save Tamil Nadu and chase Mr. Karunanidhi and his family out.” Addressing a meeting at Sembanarkoil in Nagapattinam to introduce the candidates of the AIADMK alliance for the six constituencies in the district, Ms. Jayalalithaa promised to revamp agricultural crop insurance scheme by shifting from block-wise enumeration to revenue village-wise enumeration to maximise coverage.
