Acting Rajasthan Governor Prabha Rau has called upon the private universities in the State to prepare their curriculum to meet the emerging challenges on the fronts of global warming, water conservation, women’s education and terrorism with a view to inculcating a “constructive spirit” in the younger generation.
Addressing a meeting of private universities at Raj Bhavan here over the weekend, Ms. Rau said the private institutions should improve the standards of education to meet the growing challenges of the new world order. They should be able to attract competent teachers and bright students, she added.
Ms. Rau said she had asked the State Government to make a statutory provision for investment of funds generated by teaching activities in education itself. This would help bring attention towards achieving academic excellence, she affirmed.
The acting Governor said she expected the State Government to frame a policy for serving the needs such as number of students, faculties sanctioned and the subjects to be included in the syllabus at private universities. She suggested that a sub-committee be appointed for prompt approval of the rules and orders for private universities.
Ms. Rau affirmed that private universities should evolve an atmosphere conducive to the admission of students from various sections of society.
State Higher Education Minister Jitendra Singh said the private universities should charge the tuition fee in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court.
In addition to the representatives of private universities, Principal Higher Education Secretary Tapesh Pawar, Higher Education Commissioner K. R. Silolia and Additional Chief Secretary to Governor, Meenakshi Hooja, attended the meeting.
